PENANG BRIDGE

When we talk about Penang, besides the Laksa Penang, what come crosses to our mind are their longest Penang bridge. Penang Bridge is a long bridge connects George Town on the island of Penang and Seberang Prai. It was officially opened on 14 September 1985. The total length of the bridge is 13.5 km and making it the second longest bridge in Malaysia as and the fifth-longest in Southeast Asia

But....Nowadays, Penang have more longest bridge which called Penang Second Bridge. The bridge measuring a total of 24 km in length. Began in November 8, 2008 and is currently projected to be completed in February 2014.

Mystery at War Museum....

From our previous post, we did mention about top 5 places of attraction that include the War Museum. The place is constructed with underground tunnels with the support of stairs and halls. The war museum served as a stronghold for the British till the Japanese took over through invasion in the Second World War in 1941.







Did you know that Penang War Museum are listed in the top 10 most haunted places in Asia by the National Geographic Channel?


The museum, in Batu Maung here,was featured in a National Geographic documentary series called I Wouldn’t Go In There.

1. BATU FERRINGHI

2. BUKIT BENDERA

The most popular way to the top of the hill is the Penang Hill Railway. A funicular train takes you all the way up to the top of the hill in half an hour.



3. KEK LOK SI


Kek Lok Si is a temple complex at Air Itam which includes the seven storey Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas, said to be one of South East Asia's most beautiful. A huge bronze statue of Kuan Yin adds to the attractions here.its temple complex is filled with beautifully-landscaped gardens and sacred temples. A striking seven-tiered pagoda called The Pagoda of 1000 Buddhas which combines Thai, Chinese and Burmese styles in one structure - houses a stunning collection of Buddha statues made from all sorts of precious materials.

4. WAR MUSEUM


War Museum bore witness to the fall of the British army in the hands of the Japanese invaders, making it a significant historical point in Penang.



These days it is a museum open to the public and is billed as Southeast Asia’s largest war museum.

5. PADANG KOTA

Is a significant to Penang as one historical landmarks of Penang Island where it placed the historic left.


Fort Cornwillis

Fort Cornwallis, which has a rich history of more than two centuries, stands out in the forefront. It is today, the largest and most intact fort that can be found in Malaysia.

One of the most popular hawker dishes, the flat rice noodles are fried in oil in a large cast iron walk with prawns, cockles, bean sprouts, eggs and chives. The spiciness depends on the amount of chilli paste. The best Fried Koay Teow is neither too wet nor too dry.

3. Assam Laksa Penang
Laksa is Penang popular dishes and have different flavor from laksa found in other region in Malaysia.The soup is cooked from tamarind, chili, lemon grass, onion, galangal, polygonum leaf (daun kesom) and ginger flower (bunga kantan) these are tropical ingredients, abundance in Malaysia. Fresh mackerels and sardines are served in the soup, as Penang is surrounded by sea. Tangy-spicy soup, a twist of Peranakan, Malays and Thai palette certainly explains the eating culture in the past.Suggested Places : Air Itam market place near Kek Lok Si temple, also available in most Penang food court. 


4. Penang Pasembur
The ingredients in pasembur usually a bit of everything from shredded cucumber, jicama, prawn fritter, bean curd, bean sprout, potato, hard boiled egg, deep fried crab/octopus/shellfish, they are chopped in bite sizes, mixed on a platter and served with a sweet and spicy nut sauce in orange color. The Chinese version of Pasembur usually are less luxurious, not likely to offer with seafood except for some jelly fish.

5. Penang Seafood
You also can get the best seafood in Penang. Fresh seafood with variety of choices such as prawn, crab, lobster, oyster, mantis prawn, squid, fish and so on. You may choose what type of seafood you want to eat and it can be cook the way you prefer. fresh seafood mostly available in many restaurant located at the Penang Island.
